About Statistics
Mean, Median, Mode
Mean: sum of all values divided by count — affected by outliers
Median: middle value when sorted — robust to outliers
Mode: most frequently occurring value — can have multiple modes
Standard Deviation explained
Standard deviation measures how spread out data is from the mean. A low SD means data points cluster near the mean. A high SD means data is spread out widely. Use sample SD (÷ n−1) for samples from a larger population; population SD (÷ n) when you have all data.
Variance vs Standard Deviation
Variance = average of squared differences from the mean
SD = square root of variance
SD is in the same units as the data — easier to interpret
A data point more than 2 SD from the mean is considered an outlier
