PM Kisan Samman Nidhi — Complete Guide for Farmers
What is PM Kisan?
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme provides direct income support of ₹6,000 per year to small and marginal farmers across India.
The amount is paid in 3 equal installments of ₹2,000 every 4 months directly to the farmer's bank account (DBT).
Who is Eligible?
All landholder farmer families with cultivable land are eligible, subject to:
Eligible:
- Small and marginal farmers (land up to 2 hectares)
- All farmer families with cultivable land in their name
- Both individual and joint landholders
NOT Eligible (Exclusions):
- Institutional landholders (trusts, companies)
- Families where any member is a current/former constitutional post holder
- Current/former ministers, MPs, MLAs, mayors
- Government employees (Central/State) — except Group D/Multi-Tasking Staff
- People who paid income tax in the last assessment year
- Retired pensioners receiving ₹10,000+/month (non-Group D)
- Professionals (doctors, engineers, lawyers, CAs) registered with councils
How to Apply
Online (Self-Registration)
- Visit pmkisan.gov.in
- Click "Farmers Corner" → "New Farmer Registration"
- Select Rural or Urban farmer
- Enter Aadhaar number + State + captcha → OTP verification
- Fill details: Name, bank account, land details
- Upload land documents
- Submit
Through Common Service Centre (CSC)
Visit your nearest Jan Seva Kendra. Carry:
- Aadhaar Card
- Bank Passbook (with IFSC code)
- Land ownership documents (Khasra/Khatauni)
Through Patwari / Agriculture Department
Your local Patwari or Agriculture Department office can also register you.
Documents Required
- Aadhaar Card (mandatory — must be linked to mobile)
- Bank Account with IFSC (must be in farmer's name)
- Land Records (Khasra number, Khatauni/RoR)
- Mobile number linked to Aadhaar
Check Your Payment Status
- Go to pmkisan.gov.in
- Click "Know Your Status" under Farmers Corner
- Enter Aadhaar / Account Number / Mobile Number
- View all installment payment history
If Payment is Not Received
Common reasons for non-payment:
- Aadhaar not linked to bank account → Go to your bank branch
- Incorrect IFSC code → Correct via CSC or portal
- Land records mismatch → Visit local Patwari office
- e-KYC not done → Complete at pmkisan.gov.in or CSC
e-KYC is Mandatory
Complete e-KYC annually:
- Online: pmkisan.gov.in → Farmers Corner → e-KYC
- Offline: Visit any CSC
