How pregnancy weeks are counted
Pregnancy is counted from the first day of your Last Menstrual Period (LMP), not from conception. This is because ovulation and conception typically occur about 14 days after LMP, and LMP is more reliably known.
The three trimesters
1st Trimester: Weeks 1–13 — organ development, highest miscarriage risk
2nd Trimester: Weeks 14–27 — most comfortable, fetal growth accelerates
3rd Trimester: Weeks 28–40 — baby gains weight, lungs mature, birth preparation

Book first appointment by Week 8
NT scan between Weeks 11–13
Level II ultrasound at Week 18–20
Glucose tolerance test at Week 24–28
Weekly visits from Week 36 onwards
