About Body Fat Calculator
US Navy Method
This calculator uses the U.S. Navy circumference method, which estimates body fat from neck, waist, and hip measurements. It is widely used because it is accurate enough for practical purposes without requiring expensive equipment.
Ideal body fat ranges (India)
Athletic men: 6–13% | Athletic women: 14–20%
Fit men: 14–17% | Fit women: 21–24%
Healthy men: 18–24% | Healthy women: 25–31%
Higher fat % is associated with diabetes risk — critical for Indians
Limitations
Accuracy is ±3–4% compared to DEXA scan
Does not distinguish visceral vs subcutaneous fat
Visceral fat (around organs) is more dangerous — Indian body types tend to accumulate more visceral fat at lower BMI
