About GPA / CGPA
10-point scale (India)
Most Indian universities including IITs, NITs, and central universities use the 10-point CGPA system. Grades range from O (Outstanding, 10 points) to F (Fail, 0). The UGC recommends this as the national standard.
Converting CGPA to percentage
General formula: % = CGPA × 9.5 (most Indian universities)
IIT formula may differ — check your university's official circular
ANNA University: % = CGPA × 10 − 7.5
Always use your university's official conversion for applications
CGPA for placements & admissions
Most top companies require minimum 6.0–7.0 CGPA for campus placements
IIMs and top MBA programs: minimum 60% or 6.0 CGPA
US universities for MS: typically need 3.0/4.0 GPA (~65% or 6.5 CGPA)
